Austin nonprofit helping people build confidence through music after escaping homelessness
AUSTIN (KXAN) — A program in Austin says the therapeutic and community-building benefits of playing music are helping people who’ve transitioned out of homelessness.
Finding Community in Austin’s Home Street Music Song Circle
The residents at Community First! Village, a virtual hamlet of cottages and campers in East Austin, are familiar with not having space, having struggled in the past to find secure housing. Nevertheless, on Monday afternoons a group comes together and trades tunes. It's Austin's only song circle specifically for people recovering from living on the streets.

It's something that singer-songwriter Vanessa Lively knows very well. Lively spends a big part of her time giving back to the homeless community in the best way she knows how: through music.
