2nd Annual Community Awareness Concert: Feel the Collective Vibe w/ Erin Ivey, Thor & Friends, Home Street Musicians
Free Workshop and Concert Celebrates Home Street Music’s Mission of Using Song to Reach People Affected by Homelessness
Home Street Music, a nonprofit music program founded by Austin-based artist/activist Vanessa Lively, presents its second-annual community awareness event on Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020, at Austin Central Library. The nonprofit music program uses music gatherings to empower people who have lived on the streets of Austin. This event celebrates the organization’s mission to build community, restore confidence, and reclaim dignity through the healing power of song.
In partnership with Austin Public Library, festivities kick off Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. with an interactive workshop on the fundamentals of jamming, led by Austin band American Dreamer. Open to all skill levels and non-musicians alike, the workshop includes a live performance by the string instrument music group. A 7 p.m. concert kicks off with participants in the weekly Home Street Music gatherings sharing a live music performance along with staff and volunteers.
Live entertainment caps off the evening, with performances by Austin artists Erin Ivey, followed by Thor and Friends. Thor Harris fronts the ensemble of polymathic percussionists, who together create an experimental and minimalist musical experience. Erin Ivey, known for her “rare and deeply affecting voice” (KUTX), is an acclaimed singer, songwriter and urban folk musician as well as a Texas Music Magazine Artist of the Year. A cash bar is available for guests ages 21 and up.
Home Street Music is grateful to its event partners, including Austin Public Library, Community First Village, KOOP, Mobile Loaves and Fishes, and SIMS Foundation.
